Are you an independent designer looking to work with a unique farm yarn? Are you a new designer excited to share your talents with the world? Are you an established designer who is interested in working with a small scale, farm-to-skein project? If so, this is the call for you! Melissa (host of the knittingthestash podcast) is seeking designer(s) for accessory patterns to be bundled with her latest farm yarn: Shorn III (2020 clip). Read on and see photos below!
Shorn III is a blend of Corriedale and Corriedale/Teeswater fiber sheared from Cathe Capel’s Seven Sisters Farm in Sidney, IL and spun by Stonehedge Fiber Mill in Michigan. Each skein is 250 yds of 3-ply fingering weight yarn. It is natural, undyed yarn that is an off-white color.

Project Description
The chosen designer(s) will:
- create a unique, 1-2 skein patterns specifically for Shorn III, including written and charted instructions, using a personal template or the knittingthestash template
- provide a draft of the pattern(s) to Melissa for tech editing
- host a test knit for the patterns via the knittingthestash Ravelry group (in conjunction with Melissa)
- provide coupon codes for PDF downloads via Ravelry
- provide basic pattern support for one month after the pattern’s release via the knittingthestash Ravelry group
Compensation
The chosen designer(s) will:
- receive yarn support for their pattern development (up to 3 skeins)
- receive 100% of the proceeds for patterns sold with a kit. Price per pattern to be determined collaboratively (~$5 for mitts/hats; ~$8 for shawls, scarves, and socks). Note, this is a small-scale project with fewer than 300 skeins of yarn available for sale; yarn will be available for purchase with or without kits.
- have their work promoted on the knittingthestash blog, podcast, and instagram
- retain the right to sell their pattern(s) independently, with a time delay of one month from the Shorn III launch
Timeline is flexible, but with the following goal dates: patterns drafted by May 15th; test knitting completed by July 15th; yarn and pattern release by late August 2021
Application
Please provide the following materials to Melissa via email: knittingthestash@gmail.com
- pattern sketch/schematic
- swatch photo (if using stitches other than stockinette or garter)
- a link to your Ravelry profile OR alternate portfolio of designs and/or knit projects
